Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage involves applying firm pressure to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia (connective tissue surrounding muscles). It is used for chronic aches and areas where muscles are overly contracting, like having a stiff neck. it can also address areas of tightness or soreness for example in your shoulders, which can be both as a result of pore posture or working at a desk for long periods amongst a variety of other reasons. Even if you are not currently a sports performer, Sports massage can be used to offer deep tissue massage for identified areas of tension.
Deep tissue massage techniques are used to break up scar tissue and physically break down muscle "knots" or adhesions (bands of rigid tissue) that can disrupt circulation and cause pain, limited range of movement and inflammation.
Sports Massage
This is a form of deep tissue massage that can be used pre-event to prepare and excite the muscles, inter-event, post event to aid recovery or for general maintenance and to help reduce the risk of injury. It involves the application of massage techniques to assist a client's performance and recovery from sporting activity, relaxing and reducing tension in muscles, improving circulation and the removal of waste products like lactic acid that may have built up. It also can help relax the body.
Sports massage techniques can vary from gentle and relaxing to deep & intense or stimulating depending on the goals of the session and the specific needs.
Relaxation Massage
Using certain massage techniques massage can improve mood and promote relaxation. The relaxation response increases a release of the feel good chemicals such as endorphins, serotonin and dopamine. Massage has also been found to improve sleep and general well being. Massage helps reduce general muscle tension. By increasing blood and lymph circulation and relaxing muscle tissue it can reduce tension found in the body. If you require a maintenance massage to reduce stress and aid relaxation this can also be achieved.
